As part of the 2022 edition of the Venice Art Biennale “Il latte dei sogni”, “The Milk of Dreams”, curated by Cecilia Alemani, the People's Republic of China has been participating for the eighth time, exhibiting in an Arsenale pavilion.
CAEG - China Arts and Entertainment Group presented, under the curatorship of Zhang Zikang, “Meta-Scape”, with works by the artists Liu Jiayu, Wang Yuyang, Xu Lei, AT Group of the CAFA - Central Academy of Fine Arts together with TLBI - Tsinghua Laboratory of Brain and Intelligence Institute of Sci-Tech Arts.
Zhong Art International, on behalf of the Chinese Ministry of Culture, collaborated in the organisation and management of the Chinese Pavilion and the Exhibition, which attracted considerable interest, totalling almost 25,000 visitors, thus confirming the growing worldwide interest in contemporary Chinese art.
The theme of this Biennial is a reflection on the coexistence of man with nature, which art and the creativity of artists are able to analyse, interpret and represent, also proposing alternative responses and realities, through different languages and technologies, in an attempt to regain harmony with the environment. Chinese artistic production has widely developed research in the field of the digital, and the curator Zhang Zikang has chosen for the China Pavilion to develop the theme of relationship between mankind and nature, a fundamental element of Taoism, resorting to the concept of metaverse, as expressed by the exhibition’s title “Meta-scape”, which may be suggesting both an ecological solution and an escape route, by showing the contemporary and formulating hypotheses for the future.
